Where Traveler - www.wheretraveler.com/classic/us/az/phoenix/ - a very comprehensive and easily searchable database of dining, shopping, entertainment, attractions, and more.  Also features blurbs about relevant topics.  There is also a print version that can be found around the Valley.

Phoenix Magazine - www.phoenixmag.com/ - My favorite of all the magazines I get; the online version has hiking guides, restaurant guides, things to do, shopping directory, and a smattering of the print version's monthly articles.  Definitely worth a subscription if you live here.

Local Parks & Rec departments have an astonishing list of activities, classes, and events that are available for free or some cost (Scottsdale alone has a spring catalogue of 45 pages of activities).  If I didn't list your city google '[city name] parks and rec' and you should be good to go.
McDowell Sonoran Conservancy - a great resource for outdoors lovers.  Hiking and biking trails are listed, as are events hosted by the Conservancy.
